Robert W. Griffith

Served with the 231st Armored Field Artillery

Robert W. Griffith was born in Sedalia, MO, the son of Orville Garrett Griffith and Gladys Marie Mohler Griffith. He graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia. He married Ione Mae Lynn on October 11, 1943, in Monrovia, California. Mr. Griffith was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II. He served 5 1/2 years in the 6th Armored
Division and the 231st Armored Field Artillery. He fought in Normandy, Germany & France. He entered service from the National Guard in Sedalia, MO. He received a Purple Heart, the American Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, American Theater Ribbon, & a WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Griffith was an active member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church for many years, serving as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Church Choir. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 30 years employment. His passionate hobby was the game of golf.
